- For whom:
The course is intended for school and preschool employees who are starting to learn Icelandic from scratch or who have very basic language skills and want to build a foundation for communication in simple, everyday situations through practical exercises and focused training.
- Objectives:
The goal is to build a solid foundation in Icelandic, increase confidence in speaking and understanding, and enhance the ability to use Icelandic effectively in everyday work and communication within the school community.
- The course will cover the following topics:
• vocabulary related to clothing, colors, and children’s daily situations,
• food, items used during meals, and table communication,
• play and learning – verbs and vocabulary used in school and preschool activities,
• emotions and feelings – expressing and understanding simple emotions,
• key concepts and questions useful in school and preschool work.

- For whom:
The A1.2 course is intended for school and preschool employees who already have a basic knowledge of Icelandic and wish to further develop their skills. Participants expand their vocabulary, strengthen grammatical structures, and practice communication in a wider range of everyday professional and personal situations, with a strong focus on practical language use, listening comprehension, and speaking.
- Objectives:
The goal is to help participants take a more active part in daily communication in Icelandic, handle different situations at work, and express themselves with more confidence and accuracy. Emphasis is placed on vocabulary and language use relevant to the school and preschool environment.
- The course will cover the following topics:
• communication with colleagues – asking for help, discussing tasks and meals,
• communication with children – explaining, giving instructions, and solving tasks together,
• communication with parents – discussing children’s health, well-being, and everyday situations,
• auxiliary verbs and vocabulary development,
• sentence structure, common questions, and practical phrases used at work.

Participants must attend at least 80% of the classes and actively take part in exercises and discussions. At the end of each part of the course, a short review and conversation practice are held, focusing on everyday workplace communication.
- For whom:
The A2.1-A course is intended for school and preschool employees who can already communicate in simple, everyday situations and want to develop greater independence in using Icelandic. Participants learn to express their needs and opinions, describe their working day, and respond appropriately in typical workplace situations. The course places strong emphasis on listening comprehension, speaking, and increasingly confident use of grammatical structures in practice.
- Objectives:
The goal is to develop fluency and confidence in speaking and understanding Icelandic, improve the use of adjectives, verbs, and cases, and enhance the ability to communicate naturally in various professional and everyday situations.
- The course will cover the following topics:
• health and well-being – body parts, describing health, and talking about how you feel.
• family and relationships – conversations about family, needs, everyday life, and personal situations.
• workplace communication – talking to a supervisor, discussing problems, asking for leave or extra time off.
• grammar in context (rules 1 and 2) – present tense verb forms, practice, and practical usage.
• daily routine and activities – describing the day, responsibilities, free time, and how the day went.

- For whom:
The A2.1-B course is a continuation of A2.1-A and is intended for school and preschool employees who want to improve fluency and confidence in using Icelandic. Participants develop their ability to take part in longer conversations, express their thoughts more precisely, and respond to more complex workplace and everyday situations. The course focuses on practical language use, listening comprehension, speaking, and consolidating grammatical structures in the context of working with children, colleagues, and parents.
- Objectives:
The aim of the course is to develop fluency and confidence in spoken Icelandic, improve listening comprehension, and increase independence in communication. The focus is on the practical use of skills and knowledge acquired in earlier stages.
- The course will cover the following topics:
• Hobbies and free time – talking about interests, activities, play, and shared activities with children.
• Listening and listening comprehension – listening exercises and understanding simple dialogues and stories.
• Family and appearance – describing family members, relationships, appearance, and everyday family situations.
• Communication with parents – discussing children, health, well-being, behavior, and daily events (e.g. illness, sleep, meals).
• Grammar in context (rules 1 and 2 – present and past tense) – verb forms and their use in context.
• Food and meals – practicing the accusative case – vocabulary related to food and drinks, forming sentences using the accusative, expressing opinions and preferences.
• Daily routine and activities – describing the day, responsibilities, sleep, clothing, and common everyday situations.
- Additional information:
Teaching is based on practical exercises, role-plays, and group activities. Grammar is adapted to the group’s level. The course focuses on communication, comprehension, and building confidence in using Icelandic in daily work life.
